I never use specialty installers in any of our cars, because the work is just not that difficult, esp. in sports cars with very little to remove. The last time I did something it was the motorola stereo bluetooth kit, and I had a best buy or circuit city at the palisades center mall in nanuet do it (and I stayed with them the whole time).

25 minute drive from the west side (I'm up in alpine a lot so no issues for me) and paid them, oh, 50 bucks I think. Clean install, and I learned that installing a car stereo in a 996 is about the easiest thing you'll ever do in these cars.

My advice, look online for someone else who did a similar install, download their DIY , and also find the DIY here for relocating the climate control panel. Read it over, and decide if thats really worth a grand to your buddy.

my double din install was really easy. The guys that sell that faceplate on ebay have a first rate product.

Nooooooooooo.....
I am not the type to stay with someone who is doing their job, but that would be the only reason that door and moulding clips weren't broken, wiring wasn't cut, and interior parts weren't scratched. All of this is typical damage from a stereo installer.

If you are keeping the existing speakers, the job is pretty easy with a wiring harness and antenna adapter. The factory radio removal tools do have the potential to cut off your fingertips though.

yes i saw. he seems to be out of the black... only has carbon i think. my bud is def not looking to do this himself no matter how simple.

his is an 01 like mine so there will be no relo of a/c controls. just cupholder delete in addition to the radio. if its not that complicated, maybe he can try BB and just lord over them...

yes just installation and bezel... ***** of these guys.... but they are around the corner from manhattan motors and the mgr even boasted of being an ex service mgr at MM so he knows these cars well. MM charges nearly double what everyone charges for everything. i recall a quote of over 3k for clutch job. everyone else was 1500-1800. so these are uber manhattan prices for guys who dont give a damn about money but more about convenience.

did just look at ebay again and i see he has the kit in black... hes out of the carbon bezel only.

I just got the black kit in the mail today. Their website is screwed up. They raised their prices on everything, but the old items show up at a lower price as a separate item not available. Go forward a couple pages and the new items show up as available and a higher price.

Thats INSANE, the Bezel on ebay is perfect, and can be painted to match the dash perfect like I did. My install took maybe 2-3 hours tops with me taking my time and it was very easy. No wires cut so it can return to stock.

What paint did you use to match the dash/surround?
