Default 2003 911 oil guage problem

Hello, I am new to this forum and I am seeking some infomation on the oil guage system. The guage works fine on first start up and then will drop to 0 and engine has no noise. Do these models have sender unit problems or is the instument cluster have problems? Thanks in advance.... Scott

hello and welcome Scott,

We have seen several sending units stop working or work with intermitent problems much like you have described. There are several people who have taken the time to write a DIY (do it yourself) repair for this part. You can do a search for several threads listing the details, but its a simple change out.

That said there can be other issues that might show the same type of symptoms. We have had a oil return spring break and excessive low/high oil levels, poor wire connections to the sending unit, and maybe a couple other things.

My advise it make sure the oil level is correct (check dip stick and guage) If your oil is old, a change wont hurt, but you can do that after you solve the problem. Second would be to replace the sending unit and make sure the connections are very clean. This should resolve the issue. If not, report back your findings, in fact if it does... report back too....

Good luck on the cure and when you get a few minutes post up a couple pictures of your ride so we can all see what you have in the garage!!

Take care and hurry back!
