Can he drive stick? If not, then its a good alternative. If he can, then he should test drive both and decide what he really wants.

So I'm waiting for my car (sender unit replacement) and hear the girl training her sister on the invoicing software: 'Enter in clutch replacement @ 7 hours labor ($105 per), release bearing and pressure plate...' I couldn't hear the parts costs as I was lost after I heard 7 hours!! Then there is the 'while we're doing the clutch...'

Don't mind my Tip at all!

clutch for the DIY'r should be well under $500 - just have one on hand for after the "training session"

03' Turbo would be a great car, but its a lot of car and will require some training no matter the tranny. I think some people buy a car without understanding the real power and get in trouble or find they dont really like or need all that. Then they get out having had a less than great experience.... if it was a persons first sports car, I would advise a trainer car (like a C2 or C4) then step up. If they are really sold on the Turbo then I would advise some days out at the track with an instructor to help them understand what it is they have bought...

In my opinion, a manual is the only way to go. But then again, people buy these cars for many different reasons.
