Weird Wheel Question
Currently I am running 18" 8.5 fronts 10 backs.
Ideally I would like to run 11 wide in back to get some 335/30's on there. What would I run in the front with those rears to help mitigate some of the potential for oversteer?
My thought is to just put the 10"s up front. But I am sure the offset on the Rear wheels is too much to stick up front. (Currently the rims are Carrera III OEM 18")
What fronts came on the 2003-2004 GT2? Those had 11" rears.

Also, why are you putting on GT2 wheels? If you search, widebody offsets cause lots of problems on narrowbody cars.
As for oversteer, where are you driving that you get any oversteer? For typical street driving, you shouldn't really encounter it at all - regardless of tires. And, on the track, the car is setup to understeer.

335 won't work on that width, widest section will be 315 for an 11.
The GT3 ran 8.5 up front (235 or 245), and 11s out back on (295 or 305)
The GT2 had 8.5 up front and 12s (315) in the back
The widest wheel i've seen fit to a stock regular production 996 of any body style is 8.5 in the front, although technically a 9 would fit at the same offset (since most people have no trouble running a 15mm spacer upfront)
True widebodies (not stock but racecars) like the GT3 SuperCup and RSR can run up to 11 inches up front and 14 or 15 in the back, but these cars are very different from our cars, both at the suspension/hubs and with different fender layouts and widths. Without different fenders you can't do that, nor would you want to on the street.

if they are only going to be for 1/4s, you might be best off with straight 8s up front, less rolling resistance on the wheels which aren't driven! For 1/4 mile times, you need to look at a dedicated setup out back, light wheels, probably 17s, DOT slicks or straight slicks, and analyze your shift points before selecting tires. You may wind up being able to eliminate a shift or get into a better part of the powerband by running a shorter or taller RD. Slicks on a 10 inch wheel running low pressure will hook up better than street tires on any width wheel.
Since I know you can't be looking for JUST 1/4 mile times, and assuming the car will make a few turns here and there!: Run 8 or 8.5 up front and 11 out back on the street, any section width you want, you'll be a happy man. The GT3 wheels are a perfect fit. Run 295s or 305s, either will work. Then take your current wheels and buy some hoosiers for the strip!

9' and 265's or 275's fit up there but not on my setup as my coilovers have barrel shaped springs and not straight round springs like a GT3.
I think you'll find that most "regular" 996 guys tend to like a 40mm tire width split front to rear. 245/285 is very popular with people on the stock wheels. Cars with more power (GT3 and GT2) fair a bit better with more rear tire to help out with the additional power on tap. If you're going to run 305 rears on a C2 I'd suggest a 265 or 255 front tire based on my own personal experiences.

The GT3 wheels are a great idea. Readily available and wouldn't have to worry about offsets.
Never noticed the front/back split was usually 40mm. But that is what I am running now in Sumotomo HRZ3's.
Yeah the trip to the drag strip has me thinking about this. I should probably look at buying a used Crown Vic patrol car and dragging it.
The wife is starting to growl about all this drag strip talk. Might have to be a winter project.
