Default Brake upgrade to GT-3 stuff

I'm trying to get a quick poll on upgrading the 996 brakes to the factory GT-3 calipers and rotors. I'm working on a fairly quick and simple up grade procedure.

Any interest out there for this?

pm me

I'd be interested in a procedure with pictures. Could you email it to me when you've got it?

What would be the unsprung weight difference?

It's not a simple upgrade as they don't just bolt right up. It would be easier and more cost effective to do something like a Stoptech or Brembo upgrade kit.

With that said, the CHEAPEST way to go about this and one you will be very happy with is to just upgrade the pads (sport pads for the street and race pads for the track).

It amazes me the number of people that don't realize just how potent the braking system is on these cars.

So, I have to ask......why do you want to "upgrade" your brakes?

Dell's Back!!!

and he's right. unless you've got access to salvage parts there are better more cost effective ways to upgrade the brakes. To do the GT3 brakes you also need the GT3 uprights...and then your stock sway's probably won't bolt up so you're gonna need GT3 sways too. AND if you're going that far you might as well do 997 GT3 or GT3RS uprights as the geometry on them is even better than on the 996 uprights for lowered cars.

However, Cup car brake ducts, track pads and quality fluids are all I've ever needed though to keep my stock brakes happy at the track.

I think you guys are missing the point. The GT-3 set-up with the larger diameter rotors and huge calipers would give the 996 superior stopping power. We plan to make two small adaptors to adapt the GT-3 caliper to the STOCK 996 upright. There are few other mods to get the job done but, In GT-B where you CAN NOT change the upright this would be huge.

Hence the reason I asked the question "why"? So, no, we did not miss the point. By the way, the adapter is the way you would have to go since you are not allowed to change the suspension in GTB (except lower control arms and toe links).

With that said, I would rec'd going with a Brembo or Stoptech system that is designed for your car not the GT3 6 pots.

Maybe not you LVDell.

ok so I should have explained why. I did to the p.m.s just forgot to on the open forum. The 996 brakes and 996 Turbo brakes are great but you won't out brake a 2850lb GT-B car with GT-3 brakes in a real race situation. That's our reason for the R&D

Bill, that makes more sense. Racing is a whole 'nother animal

If you decide on that route, then you can move the front calipers to the rear, install the front GT3 calipers (with adapters) and you should be fine. Is the Stoptech or Brembo, or similar, not a cheaper option (OR EASIER)?

Fair enough.

So what will your adapters cost assuming we source our own parts otherwise?

I welcome the idea. I have been frustrated in the past whenever I saw an reasonably priced set of cast off 6 piston calipers available.

An adapter is a great idea for a ton of different applications. I am not 100% sure that I need bigger calipers and can address any braking issues with simply more cooling. Keep us posted on this.

Proper cooling and pads would do wonders on the car without having to do the 6 pots. What year and engine do you have?

03 3.6 a little OT?

Dell, I run fresh SRF and PFC01 but use the GT3RS Street ducts ( I know)
