Default Autocross Ring and Pinion

Hey there everyone,

Sorry it has been so long since I posted to anything, but I am back, and I have a really nice NEW Ring and Pinion, perfect for you autocrossers.

It is a 8:32 4.0 ratio, and it is perfect.

I acquired this for a customer of mine that decided to go another direction.

I thought that there might be someone here who would be interested in it.

$3000.00 plus shipping.

Give me a call if I can help, we work on 996 gearboxes all the time, if anyone has a need of a rebuild.

Warmest Regards and Thanks for looking,

Erik Johnson

Hi Erik,

what is the implication of this on top speed and gearing....

according to the porsche manual the final drive of a 996 is 3.44:1
max speed by gears: (approx in km/h)
1. 65 (40 mph)
2. 115 (67 mph)
3. 165 (102 mph)
4. 205 (127 mph)
5. 245 ( 152 mph)
6. 295 (theoretical) (185 mph)

by incorporating a 4:1 what are the new max speeds in each gear... also by using a higher final drive what kind of horsepower increase would that "feel like" even though hp of the engine remains the same....

Well here is what the stats look like with the new ring and pinion.

Now this is assuming a 25 inch wheel diameter, and a 7K redline. Here is what I have for the stock gearing first, so that we can get a realistic comparision.

This is with a 3.444 ring and pinion

1st gear top speed is 39.603
2nd gear is 68.732
3rd gear is 99.734
4th gear is 124.328
5th gear is 147.609
6th gear is 179.817

Here is what the the 4.000 ring and pinion would look like.

1st gear top speed is 34.102
2nd gear is 59.186
3rd gear is 85.882
4th gear is 107.060
5th gear is 127.108
6th gear is 154.842

As to how this would feel well that is a pretty tough one to answer to be honest. I would say by my seat of the ***, it would feel like another 50 HP, but then others might tend to disagree.

Hope that this information helps a bit.

Warmest Regards,

Erik Johnson
