I'm a fan of the "max performance" Pole Positions (RE050A at the moment I believe), but I certainly wouldn't waste my time with the all-season version.

When I bought my car last year, it had new 960s on. It's a sedate, forgiving, comfortable tire with low road noise and long life, but they are not at all cut out for aggressive driving. No way I'd buy them again unless my only plans for the car were commuting.

my experience was poor ONLY because i had 2 new on the rear and had summer tires up front. I could not keep the car straight on the highway. It was a real handful.

I replaced them with sumitomo htz II all around and couldn't be happier.

I have them on my A6 Avant. They are okay, I actually preferred the previous rubber (Pirelli P Zero Nero).

I just got Sumi HTZ III's on the rear of the 996, but I haven't picked up the car yet from the shop.

I just put 2 on the rear of my 996 but have only driven 35 miles or so. Hope to accumulate some more miles soon.

mine now have 300 miles on them and yesterday we had heavy rain (first time) I was on the freeway and hit a long puddle at speed and the steering wheels didnt even flinch, the car kept its line and I did not feel any hydroplane - I also got on them a little on an on ramp to see if they would let loose in a corner, and they seemed to hold fine...

I hope to get them back out on the autocross next month to see if they have improved over "brand new" (they were a little loose last time - could have been too new)

My Shiney got new shoes yesterday afternoon. Upon the recommendation of the Forum Elders I got Sumi HTZ IIIs installed all around (the TireRack call was an excellent one too - wow, completely trouble free). Since the local Sumi dealer had to order them anyway, I decided to try the TireRack route and ended up saving $30 per on the fronts and $90 per on the rears. I still can't believe there's that much different in pricing.

After about 50 miles of driving (30 on a R/T to a late night poker game) my first observation is, damn - those things are quiet! I haven't enjoyed the engine note that much since I first got the car... The only thing I had to compare them with are the Pirelli P-Zero fronts and the Falken whatevers on the rear that came with the car when I got it last summer... The other thing I noticed about the new shoes is they don't track the road grooves (sometimes the old wheels would make the car feel like a slot car - the wheels would take the car across the lane depending on the direction of the concrete grooves...) at all, like the old ones did... The one comment the installer made was to break them in for about 100 miles - the rubber is harder than what was on there and if I didn't pay attention I might spin out...

Anyway - good call on the tire and the vendor, it pays to listen to the Elders!

I could not have been happier with my experience too
The tires are really quiet - BUT I have been told ALL NEW tires are... the trick is are they still quiet after 5000 miles, and from what I read, the answer is yes!

I doubt you will "spin out" but you might not "turn in" like the old ones
I thought they pushed into the corner and didnt scrub the speed off as well, also they will "bark" at you a bit if you really get on them (braking, cornering) I dont recall having the *** come around as the fronts didnt hold the line hard enough for that to take place... again I wanted more miles on them before I took them out but alignment delays meant I only had < 80 miles on them that day

I should have ~600 miles on them by the next day out at the cone attack - I will report any changes

I love it when a plan comes together, glad you were happy. Overall I can't believe the response the Sumis have had. It has turned into an exceptional tire for the price.

Wow, I guess it "Sumi time" - Rudy1024, ivangene, Barn996 and myself all just got them.

I'm taking it up to Pocono on Friday. Although it's only my 2nd time on a track, so I'm sure that I won't be pushing the car/tires to their limits.

You have mine - I'll be getting tires for my kid's '98 Ranger in the next couple of months and a set for my '03 S'Crew at the end of the year. BTW, the reviews on your installers is spot on. I took mine to Preston Tires here in the San Diego area and those guys are aces!

All things considered you and Preston just stole business from Costco, which is where I used to take my trucks (mine and my wife's '05 Sequoia) before...

Can't say enough good stuff about you guys!

I wish they came in the 315/25 19" size, I need!! They do make a 235/35/19, for my front, though. I have the PS2's...great tire, but Michelin is a little TOO proud of those puppies!
