Default Clutch Replacement, do I need a new flywheel

Getting a new engine put in next week and with 75,000 mi I'm going to go ahead and replace the clutch whiles its all out.

I've already decided agains LWFW, my question is: do I need to replace the dual mass flywheel? I haven't had any clutch issues, slipping etc.

Is it just good policy to replace it along with the clutch?

This is where you rely on your mechanic to make the call for you. It is not necessary to replace it if it is in good shape.

If it is in good shape there is no reason to replace it. Your mechanic should be able to judge it. Look for hot spots (likely if your clutch is warn down too thin), scoring (exposed rivets on clutch) or too much play between the dual masses of the flywheel. I had my done at 50K during a RMS repair, flywheel was fine, clutch had about 15% wear left.

I was being a bit ahead of the game but here is the deal. There is no way to know the condition prior to removal. The only reason I would suggest replacing it is because you are getting a free motor. I would not even think about it prior to removal in any other circumstance. But to tack on a few hundred while scoring a new motor worth $12k only makes sense in my opinion. If you were coughing out $12k for the motor I would have answered the other way
