help with 996 roof transport system
Hi,
has anyone had experience with installing the roof transport system on their 996? I am having trouble unlocking the tube ends with the keys that came with the unit (purchased used). Without unlocking I can not install the roof transport system. Is there any trick to unlocking them?
many thanks,
Sam

are you able to turn the key at all? if yes, then you just need to firmly pull the endcap off to get to the mounting screw.
maybe spray with some dw40 or similar solution if difficult to turn the key.

OK So I went in the garage again and looked closely at these locks. I was WRONG before, too early in the morning!! The vertical position is the LOCKED position to un-lock them you turn the key counter clockwise or to the LEFT. I only checked the right passinger ones as that is the side accesable to me where they are stored. So maybe you are turning the key the wrong way?

Question #2 You do need to slide that part back to access all the bolts(2) to install the rack.Do not pull the black lock assembly( once you get it out) too far out of the channel as it will break off the little plastic tab that holds it in the channel and they will keep falling out unless the lock mechanism is locked in. Hope this helps!

I tried all your suggestions but no luck. I think it may be the key so I plan to take the rack to a locksmith and let them figure it out.

sam, so i'm guessing the key just doesn't turn?
i do remember my first time trying to open and the key wouldn't turn. turned out that i had to firmly push the key into the keyhole. then it would turn.

I looked at mine, and I only saw a number on the key.
