Default Hard acceleration followed by brief loss of power...

So... yesterday I was waiting and waiting and waiting for my opportunity to pull out onto a busy road. It was a left turn out of a shopping center onto a 4-lane road without a center median or lane, so I had to wait for the appropriate gap to open on both sides of the road.

When the gap opened, it was relatively small so I accelerated hard. No problem there. Once I got into the left lane, still accelerating, the car stumbled a bit... lost power for a second, and then returned to normal. I haven't ever had that issue, and it seems to run fine now. It was quite strange.

Any thoughts?

Was there a gear shift? Based on incomplete set of facts, sounds like rev limiter after shift (too close to redline at shift and gas pedal not released timely.) Happens to me at the track (when it does occur) and mostly between 2nd and 3rd.

There was no gear shift, this happened in first gear. I don't think I got to the rev limiter... it sputtered before I got the chance. It felt like the engine was starved for fuel. I had 3/4 of a tank at the time, BTW.

Could be some sort of hiccup... The good news is you'll have fun driving around trying to re-create the problem. If you do, hopefully you'll be able to tell us more about the other variables / clues.

Probably the PSM kicking in as you rounded the corner - feels like fuel cut off.

Could be a coil pack or sticking lifter also.

I had it happen to me when I was pulling out of a gas station. I think it may have been the PSM because I lost everything but steering for a brief second, thankfully everything came back.

Another vote for PSM.

was there a bunch of noise when it happened. sounded a bit like an old style ABS going off?

No noise, just loss of power.

I find that the PSM threshold (especially ubrupt steering and throttle) quite low and intrusive.... it might of save you from something you didn't know was coming.

hmmm. i lean toward it not being the PSM.

but you might try taking that hard turn with PSM off and see if you get the same result. if you do, then it's probably something else, possibly fuel system related. maybe the injectors.
