I'm not sure what year your C4 is but .....
Wasn't there a recall for some very few select C4 models for a transmission replacement ? (It may have been for early 997 models, I just have a vague memory of seeing something). It might be worth a call to your local Porsche dealer.
There was also a bulletin regarding a control unit replacement on the 996 or 993 cars as well, if memory serves correct.

+1 for the refill and then just drive it.
What's the worst that could happen?
Noise from the tranny isn't really a good enough reason for me to drop 10G. I'd drive it till it stops working. But that's just me.

I did some quick checking and here ya go for tiptronic transmissions requiring replacement, there is a vin# range of cars with each bulletin.
2004-2005 996 Service action W562
and also
2005 997 Service action W562
It covers certain VIN's for noises in tiptronic trans at high speeds or a limited operating program. You will have to check your Vin# and then the trans # also.
It may be a long shot for you but if your car falls in the range then it means a free transmission, parts and labor, from your friendly Porsche dealer.
If you are in the Dallas or Houston area PM me and I can get you with a dealer that knows about this and will be willing to help you out.
Hope it works out for you,
