Default Roll-bar for 996 Cab

Just came back from my 2nd DE event at Carolina Motorsports Park... Had a blast.

CMP doesn't require a roll-bar for the 996 cab, but from a general safety point-of-view, I am thinking of getting a bolt-in roll bar. Having one of these, would then also allow me to do DE's at VIR (they do require a roll-bar for the 996).

Does anybody have experience with a roll-bar for the 996? Where could I find one.... new, or slighly used (preferred).
Will post this in racing forum as well.

Thanks!

The floor and rear strut mounting points should be the same but you should also make sure of the clearance with the top. I bought it from Stable Energies, (973) 773-3177 you could call them and ask that question and I'm sure they would ask Safety Devices.

Most people use Das Sport bars or similar, which I didn't like because it puts the load of the main hoop in shear to bolts that are into the seat bolt holes. I'd love to see pics of a car like that wrecked to see how well that holds up. The guy that designed the Das Sport bar actually modified this Safety Devices bar for me to make it bolt in easier and also to raise the harness bar to a better height.

I have the Porsche Tequipment roll bar/harness mount. It has a nice brushed finish and bolts into existing hard points in the back. I like it although I've never needed to "use it" if you know what I mean.

Same issue with the Techquipment bar, the mainhoop is in shear to bolts in the seatbelt mounting points.

Dutchie,

If you want to pay more, the T-equipment would be better than the DAS Bar.

I realize the DAS or the T-equipment is not structurally as good as a custom or welded cage, but really?

For guys like us who do a few DE's per year (or less), it's enuf.

... and personally, I would not want to see pictures of wrecked cabs with DAS bars.

I've had the TEquipment bar ever since VIR started requiring them for cabs a few years back. While I agree that it may not be as strong as a permanent type installation, I doubt that I will ever have occasion to actually push it to the point where it would make a difference. (at least, I sure hope not!)

I actually felt pretty comfortable running at VIR before I had the bar.

And this one can be removed in between events, or during the off season, which is nice.

I had an opp to pick up a t-equip bar for about $550 and ended up passing as it looks, from a design/engineering perpective, less safe than the DAS bar. Specifically the bend on the lower portion.
