resurrecting this old thread ... but what is the difference in design between the 01 and now its the 04 caps (not 03 anymore)?

Marc, I had to replace my tank on a 2000 C4. solved a slow leak problem. now I am wondering if just the cap was at faault......

I have the 01 cap as well. Looked it up on Pelican Parts and they only have the 04 series caps. Is it recommended to do this proactively or re-actively?

Pelican doesn't carry the 03 anymore.

You can get a new cap but you don't need to unless you're leaking coolant. It's $20 though so who cares.

Suncoast has the 2001+ tank for $85 and the 98-00 tank for $200. It takes time to install it yourself but is not difficult, going to be pretty expensive at the dealer.
