Default $15 Tire Mounting and Roadforce Balancing

I just had 2 tires dismounted, mounted and Hunter Roadforce balanced by The Wheel Doctor in Elmsford, NY for $15 a piece! This recession does have its good points.
They also do wheel straightening and crack repair. For all interested, their number is (914) 592-7045.

The Wal-mart down the road from me charges $7/tire for mount and balance, including on/off the car. (Disposal is another $2 extra, but the city will take old tires for free, so we just bring them home and save $8.) I took my tires to an indie shop instead, as I knew they had a good machine and they came highly recommended. I think I paid $15/tire, to. Changing tires on a Porsche is just like changing tires on any other car, not sure why anyone would refuse the work. If anything, I'd expect it's not so much the car, as the stereotype of Porsche owners and the perceived increased liability for any tiny little bit of damage to the wheels.

15 is a great price. I pay 20-25 a wheel when I switch to R comps. In effect spending 160-200 for a DE weekend plus tips of course. I really need to invest in some hollow spokes.

Old thread alert... Good job dood.

I was picking up my wifes Toyota at the dealer and was telling service manager about a slight shimmy I had with my Porsche and he liked my car so much he drove it back and for $20 did all 4 of them and no more shimmy. Now that's what a dealer should be.

Some times I love having my own shop and doing everything for free, well maybe a few cents for the power to run the balancer and compressor, but still free. Even better is the fact I can do it myself, so I know the quality going into it.

Roadforce balancing. What ticks me off is that we are offered this service at an extra cost. When you buy a set of tires you naturally pay for the tires to be mounted and balanced. Shouldn't we expect that the shop will install the tires on the wheels vibration free to begin with?

We're paying for mounting and balancing in the first place, not mounting and nearly balanced. "Well, for additional charge we can balance them precisely so you have no vibrations". Huh? Aren't I paying you already to do just that?

Sorry, rant over. I just went through this recently buying some tires. I think "Roadforce Balancing" is an extra cost gimmick passed on to the consumer.
