Default Radio Reception Question

I am the really happy owner of a 2004 Targa. The one thing that I have noticed is that the radio reception is very poor. I can only pick up a handfull of FM stations (with static), and only one AM (I do like to listen to the ball game occasionaly).
Is this normal? I am not a big audio nut but like to listen to radio sometimes. I have been turning it off and the engine is nice music, but...The guy at the dealer said it was due to the in window wire antenna.
Are there any improvements short of putting some arial on the thing?
Thanks,
Tony

I have no problems with the windshield antenna. I get good reception. I wonder if yours is unplugged from the back of the unit or something like that...

The antenna has a powered amplifier. It may be bad or have a blown fuse. I find the reception a bit above average. Renntech.org may have more info.

Agreed with others. I get reception in my underground parking garage while most other cars get nothing...

Thank you all! I will have to have the dealer look into this. I will look up the TSB.
Thanks again.

either the dealer or a real radio shop should take a look at that. the amplifier sometimes can blow the fuse and then you have little reception. They know the schematics on that stuff,--it's more than just hooking it up to the antenna lead.

I will start with the dealer and see what they say. Then I may move on to a radio shop. Problem is lots of the car audio shops are a bit suspect from what I have heard.
Thanks,
Tony

I'm surprised to hear that some have good AM reception. Most I've spoken with can barely receive even the strongest AM stations. My AM reception is horrible, though FM reception is OK. I haven't done the antenna test as detailed in the TSB, but I have examined the connection at the radio, and the grounding of the antenna booster. Do people really get good AM reception with stock radios?
