It has been one long year ...
since I lost my job by being laid off. Still unable to find an civil designer job. I have been able to hang on to my C4 and home so far. I had to take a job in a warehouse just to have some money coming in. A huge cut in pay that's for sure.
I hope this spring and summer will be better then the last one. I may be joining gota911 sometime soon.
Just need to vent.

Good work on taking a job even though it is beneath your abilities. My job is pretty close to the core of this mess and I am definitely seeing small improvements. Hopefully things will continue to improve over the summer. Hang in there buddy!

Hang in there, and at least you've got some income.
Some companies are starting to hire again in the past month.
I'm familiar with civil engineer, but is a civil designer similar?
Have you tried LinkedIn, it's a great tool for networking.

RAC,
I am sorry to hear about that! I, too, am looking for another job! I certainly hope things do begin turning around soon. As Dave said above, check out LinkedIn. You never know how some contacts on there may be able to help.

Best of luck - good place to vent. Things will definitely turn around soon enough, but seems like you're doing the right thing. Most importantly, keep up your positive attitude - makes a world of difference in the meantime, and moreover in the long term.
And EDIT: Sorry to say, but these cars are simply sheet metal and drivetrain.... Everything is replaceable. You're a member of the community and selling the car doesn't change a thing as far as you being "part of the crowd" here. You can always pick up a 996 in the future should you decide to let yours go til things pick up.

I think the hardest part over the last year is the frustration in the hunt. I do a search every day and at times I feel like I just spin my wheels to get nowhere. I have never had a problem in finding a job. The worst part is never hearing back or the brick wall when I try to follow up on sending my resume.
I have been pinching pennies since I was let go. I have given up so many things. The worst is when the guys call me to go on our breakfast runs. I hate to turn them down but I just can not spend the extra $20 in gas I'll burn up driving up to the mountains. Although one of my friends did tell me I can take is 996 targa on the runs and not to worry about the gas. He will take one of his other cars. What a guy!
As far as the warehouse job ... all I can say is, there is no stress! I go to work and come home, never thinking about the job when I am home. I like the job and the people. So that helps a lot. I was a bit worried though as my boss is half my age. But I lucked out and the kid does a great job and we work very well together. The down side is the low pay and I am not sure there is any room for me to work my way up the chain.
Anyway today is the 1 year mark. I do worry that I have been out of the field for so long that it may be held against me.
Tomorrow is a new day and maybe some good will come for a change. So I'll continue to look.
