Hershey was great - now a 996 owner and a newb again - offset questions
As you can see by my signature - I am a longtime rennlister and porsche owner, however, as of Saturday in Hershey I am now a 996 owner. As I navigate to get up to speed (no pun intended) on the intricacies of this Porsche, I have an offset question. I have Euromeister 18" on my 951 that I would like to move to the 996. In 944 land it has an early offset that required hubcentric adaptors of 21mm and 28mm. Info on rims is:
52mm front
63 mm in rear
The 996 is a 2001 carrera and currently has OEM 17" - if I understand the posts I have read, the offset for OEM 18" was 50 mm and 65 mm. Is my understanding correct that I am 2 mm off and will likely not need spacers?
Also - any issue with running 18 x 8.5 225/40 in front and 18 x 10 265/35 in rear?
I have been through the FAQ and surfing the forums, but please feel free to impart any wisdom. Looking forward to getting to know you as I did many others in the 944/951 forums.
Thanks -
J

Welcome to the world of 996's!!
The stock 18" wheel size for both narrow body generations was F 8.0 x 18 ET 50, R 10.0 x 18 ET65. The stock tires were f:225/40-18 r:265/35-18 on the Mk I's ('99-'01) and f:225/40-18 r:285/30-18 on the Mk II's ('02-'04).
Your wheels should work fine IMHO. The only thing I'd recommend is maybe stepping the fronts up to 235/40's (which won't be so streched on the 8.5 inch wheel) and the rears up to 285/30's to balance the fronts.
Good luck

Jeremy,
Welcome to the 996 Forum. Congrats on getting a nice looking 996. Oh, wait..... at least I think it is nice looking..... I can't tell for sure because there are no pics!
Consider the following statement as your 996 Forum "Newbie Initiation." Come on Newbie, post the !@#$%^&* pics! I have to do that because, as you can see below my screen name, I have been officially named the "Newbies Hospitality Director." How I got that title I'll never know!
Again, welcome and congrats!
