I figure it's the stiffer body and suspension for '02+ 996 models.
My Questions for you:
What is the standard suspension for 2002+ 996 models?
What was the application of the X74 and US M030 'Sport' suspensions for this model in context?
The X74 suspension which lowers and stiffens the car was also available as a 2002+ factory modification.

X74 is for '02 through '04 C2/C4 Coupes.
X73 is for '01 through '05 Turbo and '03-'05 C4S Coupe.
Finally a complete factory suspension kit that makes a big difference in lowering the car - 30mm, (1.2") average over standard ride height.
Based on the RoW M030 suspension, the X74/X73 includes front and rear shock & spring assemblies complete for installation, this includes strut and shock mounts, bump stops and bellows.

My understanding of 996 narrow body chassis is that there were two types produced.
1. C2
2. C4 and GT3
The second one being stiffer than C2.
I will let the suspension gurus answer the next question in detail. My understanding is: The standard suspension, depending where you live, is USA standard or (ROW) for rest of the world. Due to US DOT regulations, the bumper height is higher than ROW.
X74 is the factory sport suspension. There is also GT3 suspension which also fits our narrow body cars.

- The US 030 is the "Special Chassis Rigidly Tuned".
- To the best of my knowledge the x74 suspension was not offered as an option from the factory on US cars. It had to be added after the car was delivered (but I could be mistaken).
- According to Porsche the chassis on the Mk II cars is 20% stiffer.

chsu74 asked this in my introduction thread and I don't have an exact answer.

This isn't accurate. There wasn't a C4 coupe from 2002 to 2004. The C4 was only available as a cab, and the coupe was a C4S, starting in 2002.

Just did a search for this info. The suspension that came off my '99 996 had "Sport Chassis (Manual)" on the original invoice and was a $2,140 option. This is the M030 option I assume.
Little help? I'm planning on selling it, complete.

My 99 996 C2 has the M030 option. It is described in the brochure as the "Sports Pack - a sports pack is available for those drivers prepared to sacrifice a little comfort for even better handling. The pack consists of sports seats, sports suspension, traction control and 18 in. technology wheels. Shorter stiffer springs lower the car 10 mm. Thicker anti-roll bars further reduce body roll. Firmer dampers enhance feedback."
Mine is lower, has the sport seats and has traction control.
