Anyone care to comment on their experience on having wheels refinished. All of my rims are badly stained and I have tried several recommended cleaning products which have made no difference – the wheels were acquired in this condition and I can only assume it is from a continued buildup of break dust (14,000 miles). The outside finish is in acceptable condition but the inside lips are badly stained. My choice is to either have them refinished or to purchase a new set.

Thanks guys - among other cleaners, I have tried tar remover and a product called Never-Dull with no noticeable change. Never considered claybar but I'm willing to try that given the alternative.

Try WD-40 for some of the junk you pick up from the roadways, and anything else you can think of to avoid refinishing the wheels. No one refinishes wheels as well as the original manufacturer. Once you do get them up to speed, you have to stay on top of them. With your brake dust contributing daily, you have to have a daily regiment at keeping them clean. Also, wax the entire wheel inside and out to extend the time between thorough cleanings. I got so fed up with brake dust that I went the PCCB route this time.
