Default wheel hangers

I have heard of people using wheel hangers to make it easier to mount wheels without hitting your callipers. I am pretty sure they are using three studs that they screw into the rotors where the wheel bolts go and then slide the wheel on perfectly. If this is the case has anyone done this and if so where do you get the studs and what size are they?

Thank you!!

Your car's jacking kit comes with a wheel hanger as standard.

You screw this in to the top most bolt hole - slip the wheel onto it - it takes the weight and leaves you free to align the other holes, and screw in the bolts.

No need to buy anything extra.

And if you can't find it in your tool kit you can order here - http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...Code=POTE996WH

One hanger will do although if you have PCCB's, two hangers recommended.

I wish I knew about these last time I swapped my wheels out. Man, what a PITA it is to have to lift up the wheels, and get them onto that little metal lip long enough to align the holes up and put a bolt in!

I owned my 996 for a few years before my friend looked at me funny..."uh the wheel hanger is in your tool kit".

All those times I was cursing, the freakin tool was already in my unknowing possesion.

I hear ya! My tool kit didn't have the hanger in it for some reason, so I just bought another one. Can't wait to try it out putting on my summer wheels in a week or so.

The wheel hanger is a great help. However, when using only one hanger in the top hole, you still want to be careful not to let the lower part of the wheel hit the brake caliper or the rotor. This can happen because about 60% of the weight of the wheel will be below the hanger.

Using two hangers, one at the top and one near the bottom would eliminate this issue. Another way to ensure that the wheel doesn't hit the brake caliper is to slide the wheel all the way back to the hub when you initially mount the wheel on the hanger.

ON other cars I used to use a thick screwdiver to mount the wheels.

Better yet would be to just put wheel studs on.

No need for lug bolts then.

Two is the way to go. They're something like $11.95 retail. Aluminum. There is a place to slide two of them into your built-in tool kit. (We had to buy the little buggers for the 997s!)
