I appreciate the debate on the 996 vs GT2 or GT3 transmission, but the real point of the thread was to determine if it is a reasonable swap.

As someone mentioned above you can put anything in anything with enough money, but since one of these transmissions was offered in a 996, I am wondering how plug & play the swap is.

Not they will not interchange. Not even feasible to try. Completely different. Sorry I thought from my first post in the thread that it would not work...
