Default Removing dash/defroster vent

Been lurking around for a while and now I need the experts advice. The wood trim on the defroster vent below the windshield is cracking and peeling pretty bad. I would like to remove the trim and cover up where the wood is with leather. I don't want to replace it with a new wood trim piece for fear of it just cracking again. Does anyone know the procedure for removing both sides of the trim? Thanks for any assistance in advance.

P.S.- being a newbie I kinda know that pix are expected. I am usually too busy staring at the car to take pictures, but they will come soon.

Remove side vents first, 2 torx screws on each side.
pull headlight switch and insert smallest screwdriver into hole to pop out switch. Remove last torx screw and pull vent out.
then just pull the defrosters up.

hope that helps.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the side vents had to come off. When you say "pull the headlight switch" do you mean pull it straight out or does it need to be twisted as well?

BTW, car is an '03 C4S w/6 speed tranny. Cobalt blue w/full beige leather and light wood interior. Blue-ish gray carpet. Was probably at the bottom of my list but when I saw the combination it just popped out at me. Love black/black cars but I have never seen another Cobalt 911 when on the road.

Pull the headlight switch don't turn, and look under switch a little hole, put small screwdriver or pin.

Hi, sorry for reviving this zombie thread…

BUT I can’t seem to remove the defroster trim at all. I removed the right vent—no problem—and also took off the sun sensor cover. But that’s where I got stuck.

I’ve seen on many forums that people managed to remove the defroster trim without removing the A-pillar (which I’d really prefer not to do), but mine just won’t budge. I have no idea how or where to pull, and I really don’t want to damage the leather.

I know there’s a large clip on the side of the A-pillar, but from the photos I’ve seen online, it looks like there aren’t any other attachment points on this piece. Or are there?

Any help would be really appreciated!

I've never done the defroster trim or the dash but don't let the a-pillar slow you down. It's pretty easy, just pops out with plastic trim tools. If that will help with the rest of your project then for sure have a go at it.

OK, based on this video
removing A pilar trim is easy - no need to remove anything else (hook, sunvisor etc) right?
Oh and I do not need to worry about Airbags, right?
