Search for old posts by JimB. His old race car had an exhaust that went straight out the back off of the headers. I think most of the video's were in-car though but maybe you'll find one from an outside perspective to give you an idea.

There are some very nice bypass pipes on eBay for around $200.

You can't get much louder or more pure than that.....

Your 996 is in Toronto, right?
(Was just reading about the amazing Dubai car scene in 0-60.)

yea that would prolly give u the best "loudness level".
by the same token u'll be goofing with the power delivery of the car..trading low-end torque for high-end power. weight saving is about 20 lbs for cat removal. if you add that to the weight saving of ur tubi's..you'll have the weight saving equivalent of having done the muffler bypasses...but they won't be as loud

I'm looking for a set bypass pipes as well. I would like to find a set for $200 but I haven't seen any at that price yet. If anybody has a set they want to sell, let me know.

just go to an exhaust shop and have them measure and bend you a piece of metal, then weld on an exhaust tip of your preference.

These are pretty nice...
LINK to ebay
$175 plus $20 shipping
Good seller, I bought a set, but they were not something I wanted after I drove them for a week. Sold to a 6speed'r and installed them on his car for free... he is still running them and loves them (about a year now)

Yeah, I've also got a similar set. They're very nicely made stainless, nice welds and rolled tips, fit nice too.
I had guys chasing me asking what kind of mufflers I was running, ha.
