Default Rattling and buzzing

I've got two rattling noises that are irritating me. I did a search and found a thread on the 996 GT3 forum that was heavy on complaining and lite on solutions.

1) Driver's side door rattles -- mainly while idling at stop lights. Stops when I put my elbow against the door.

2) Shifter buzzes. Happens occasionally. Stops when I press my hand on the leather at the base of the shifter.

I can see that the PO had various rattles handled under warranty by the dealer. At this point, I would like to minimize expenditure and would love to hear about some DIY solutions. Suggestions?

I have the driver side door rattle as well on my c4S. Sounds like the glass inside is shaking around causing the noise.

This is one of my current solutions. The other is dropping the hammer and listening to the delightful engine roar with all windows down and roof open.

I am contemplating taking the door apart, looking for loose bits, tightening them, and reassembling. I noticed that the dealer in my records used felt to deaden some noises. Any ideas on what kind of material they were using?

At some point, I know I'm going to need to do the passenger side door because it's not dropping the full distance (still drops enough) and I think I've got the "streak" issue when raising/lowering the window.

I would assume FatMat, dynamat, or something of the sort.

A common rattle problem (from what my mechanic told me) is that the screws that hold in the door speakers work their way out and cause door rattles. Once you remove the door panel, check that out first.

No problem. We were replacing my window regulator last summer, and when we had the door apart, I remember him commenting about a common door rattle problem that always turned out to be a speaker screw. Hope that it for you guys!

I think that is pretty rude of you to call his wife an airbag, but that....... oh wait........ you were talking about the one in the door!
