New wheels, mismatched tires; LOUD
I just bought a new (for me) set of 19" Champion RG5's for my C2. I came from 18" with Toyo T1R's. The tires that came with these wheels are mismatched, but I think I have to live with them for a while. The are Yokahama fronts and Nitto rears. I am taken aback by the harshness of the ride and how loud they are. I had Pilot Sports before the Toyo's and while they were louder, I don't remember them being anything like this.

The Toyo's are hard to beat - I have them in 19" on my 996 and 18" on my Land Rover LR3, and on both vehicles they are way quieter than the competition.
Toyo put a lot of R&D into the quiet tread design on their tires - the flame pattern on my new Proxes STIIs is amazing - compared to the original Dunlops that came on the LR3 they are silent! - the Dunlops just droned all the time, making for stressful journey times.
I'd suggest you swap out all four for a set of Toyo's when you can, and enjoy the sound of your engine again!
Toyo's do a nice 19" pair of sizes for the 996 - T1R in 235/35/19 (Front) and 315/25/19 (Rear)
No rubbing on my vehicle, and the look and ride is great.

I think swapping all 4 was what he was trying to avoid for a while as an expense issue....To help easy the noise I suggest peeling out at ever chance you can, the excessive heat and smoke will cause the tires to wear out really fast and then you can "justify" a full set
I am in the same boat, need tires... not ready to drop the dough on a set yet...burning out an aweful lot
LOL

I think the noise is coming from the front where the Yokohamas are. I will probably go back to Toyo's in the spring, to allow a little time to go by between expenses on the car. The difference is just astounding.

BTW Nittos and Toyos are from the same parent company.
Some Yoks are good with grip, however, at the expense of comfort and noise. I had Yokos in my past cars and whenever they'd wear, they were so loud it sounded like broken wheel bearings.

Yes, I went for a drive today. I'm going to bit the bullet and get some new ones. My wife won't be happy since the tires I just sold with my old wheels were only a little over a year old.
