OK, due to the overwhelming number of requests (1) for pics of what my car looks like, here is a pic. Yes, it is a pic from the Honda web site. I promise you that the number of pics I will take of my Honda will be equal to the number of days Phil's car will be driven in the snow.

By the way, my dogs ate my nice black rubber hose from Sears... They refused to give me a replacement!! Craftsman FOREVER warrentee MY A**!!!
I had to wait for a 100' to come on sale and bought it today for $39....
Drove home and washed my car in 38 degree weather at 6 pm... completely dark out. Dried it up and pulled to the garage. Opened all the openings and dried everything I could. (not enough room to walk around it IN the garage)
Man - does that feel better, it had been over a month or bad weather driving. Tucked my baby in, talked sweetly to her and can't wait to get out tomorrow and drive her!!!

I know current 996 owners don't want to hear this, but having shopped very hard the last 3 months, and your number is around what I've ended up getting to.
Times are very rough for dealers right now and the market doesn't know what to do. I spent an hour with a friend of mine who works for a non-P dealer and buys through the auctions. We went through the auction results over the last 4 weeks, including what was being offered for sale between dealers. The 996s and Boxsters are not selling, and there are a bunch of them out there (especially Cabs and Boxsters).
Was the 33k out the door? I got a CPO'd '04 with 34k miles offered a little better. I say that because this was out the door (tax, tag, etc), so I figured it was being sold around 30k . It did not have sport exhaust but a bunch of other options. It was originally listed at 39,995. I Google'd the VIN and found where the car was listed at 42k just a few months ago.
I ended up passing for a number of reasons. One being I've been told there are a wave of off-leases about to show up starting this spring and it's a concern for dealers. This, along with the economy, will drive down the prices of older 996s even further. Low milage Caymans are already dropping like a rock. BMW is running into the same problem. How long this holds true is really unknown.

BTW, I like the look of the Accord coupe. But if you Photoshop that one to look really dirty, like yours does, we'll get a better idea of what yours really looks like. Sort of like Madonna without any makeup.

You've already posted one -- which is one more than the # of days my Porsche will see snow (or rain for that matter).

Surprisingly, the car isn't THAT dirty. I guess the occasional rain shower has kept it tolerable.

I would say it's reasonable right now. About the CPO, check and see when the actual CPO started (thus ends).

Eight different posters told the OP that they thought it was a decent buy and one person stated he thought the OP could do better. However, it is still up to the OP to make the fiinal decision.
Nifty stated that he passed on an '04 for about $33 +/- out the door (he never did give an exact amount), because he felt he could get a better deal later. He is rolling the dice that cars coming off lease will drive the price even lower. He may be right about better deals in the future, but that will be driven by the current economy rather that off lease cars. There are always cars coming off lease. Most leases are between 36 and 48 months, so the majority of the the '04 996 cars that were purchased new have already come off lease. There will be, and have been, some '05 and '06 997 that are coming off lease, but we are talking about the 996 here.
