+1 And, they’ll likely have access to look up the correct part number for a Porsche replacement piece, and know of a local supplier from which to source it.

When I lived in Los Angeles (culver city / venice area), after 3 smashed windows, I just took everything of value out of my car and left the doors open. Never had a problem again. Over the next two years I could tell my car had be "searched" at least ten times. (door not fully closed in the morning).

Sorry to hear the news. It's devastating to walk out to your car and see broken glass, I know the feeling-- it's like you've been violated.

So.... what were you doing at a motel? j/k

That's a major drag -- happened to me over a year ago in my Passat, they stole my laptop in the case and everything else I had in there, sunglasses, iPod, some valuable vintage postcards, ugh.

So like you said, at least they only took that 1 thing and not your other personal stuff.

So just make sure they vacuum out all the glass inside the door, you don't want that rattling back in a couple weeks.

Hang in there and good luck.

Not what, who...

WHO is was doing at the motel were a couple of Swedish twins. So this was kind of a buzzkill.

I called my indy guy and he's not to thrilled about working on a window. He recommended a glass place so I'll check them out. Thanks for all the tips.

That sucks man. However, look on the bright side...that cardboard mod reduces the weight of your car, but its awfully hard to see out when your driving. GL with a quick fix.

BTW - did you use OEM or aftermarket cardboard?

Good luck with the repair.

GPS units are such incredible targets right now. I know all of you know this, but never use one of those suction cup thingies on your window -- it's a tip off to thieves that a GPS lurks somewhere in your car. I don't use one, because I know the directions from one end of my driveway to the other. I put the directions in the GPS I have at home, and the computerized voice just laughed at me and said "what, are you f-in' kidding me??"

Phil, you are taking all the fun out of your posts because you are beating me to the punch by giving yourself sh*t about not driving!

I have a Tom Tom nav unit with a sweet sounding female voice with a slight British accent. If she was in your GPS, you would eventually drive her insane. All she would be able to say is "go straight on... make a U-turn...go straight on... make a U-turn...go straight on... make a U-turn..."

Ha, or maybe a voice like Ferris Bueller would come on and say "Phil, put car in reverse and drive backwards to take miles off odometer."

My question to you is– who should I have fix this? The local dealers are goofballs and I don't trust them at all. Should I go to a body shop? Auto glass shop?

How likely is it that they are going to muck up my door? Are Porsche doors tricky with the door handle lowering the window deal? Any advice?

thanks,

Grant
This is a very easy fix. You could do it yourself in a couple hours. Personally I would have a glass shop come to your house and fix it. If you don't want to do that Minneapolis has a bunch of very good body shops and some of the best Porsche indie shops in the country. Let me know what part of town you are in and I can give you some guidance.

This really is an easy repair Grant. Any half competent glass shop can take care of it. Just make sure they use OEM glass.

So is that why I had 3500 miles on my car two months ago, and now I only have 3350??
