New clutch and flywheel, now...
After getting the throwout bearing, clutch plate, pressure plate and flywheel replaced I'm finding it difficult to put the car into reverse and 1st gear.
Is this normal, or did they screw up something with the linkage?

Sounds like the clutch system may not have been bled completely. If you do any of your own work, I would suggest raising the car off the ground and trying to put the car in gear (1st and reverse). If the wheels spin with the clutch in, it's not fully disengaging...

This was an indy near my house... I dropped the car off this morning and they didn't even question it, just said "no worries we'll look at it and make sure it's all good" so that's a positive step.
I'm a firm believer that "**** happens" and it's how you make it right that matters.... let's see.

Didn't they test drive the car after install?

That's what pisses me off... did they not put the car in reverse??
There are two explanations
1) they test drove the car and hoped I wouldn't notice
2) they didn't test drive the car
Which of those two options would make you feel better?

You didn't happen to ask them this ▼ question again, did you?

Tim,
I don't think this is an extra $$ thing... I think this was an oversight - which is unfortunate because they are good and have worked on my 911 and my wife's Lexus of the past few years without issue... so we'll see.

Gearshift cable linkage is only unclipped when pulling out trans, doesn't affect any adjustments.
You are pushing the pedal completely to the floor? Have seen similar "poor shifting" issues with new clutches because the pedal needed to be fully depressed, but wasn't.
It could be a clutch fault, like the plate not disengaging from the flywheel.
Local mechanic or local Porsche mechanic? There is a big difference (and yes, I've heard all the jokes, satirical statements, "well, my friend says" stories before).
Anyway, the shop will be able to fix it. Don't forget, they didn't make the parts.

Mistakes do happen. However, doesn't every mechanic/shop hop in your 911 and take a 'test' drive after working on it? My current Porsche indy always goes for a shakedown ride to be sure my car is right and drives like it should. Hopefully it will be minor and easily remedied.GL, keep us posted...
