Default GT3 Vent DIY possible??

I really like the look of the GT3 3rd radiator vent in the front bumber, but I don't want to buy a whole new bumper.

Does anyone know where I could get just the vent??

Thanks,

Aaron

You can buy the third radiator kit, and install it, and you'll actually have a vent that does something. Suncoast has them at a nice price. I don't see much point in doing it though unless you live in a very hot climate, and/or you intend to race your car.

All the research I've done says that its not required for the C4S due to the better front bumper and radiators, but I'd still like to see if its possible. Please take pics if you decide to move forward with the project.

Here is mine with the center radiator in. I've subsequently put some black filter material in front of the radiator to protect it from track crap.

I think he's talking about the "top" grill on the "top" of the bumper on the 997 GT3.
Is that correct?
Is that's your situation, you are SOL
The vent is $29 at suncoast. The DIY looked very easy. The curvature of the vent doesn't match the 996 hood.

That sucks. That would be a nice mod for the 996's!

Yep, I'm talkin the top vent.

Well for 29 bucks I'll just order it and see if there's a way it can be wrangled in there. Maybe I can push it forward a little and fill the gap with a black plastic spacer or something.

Maybe you could get a 996 GT2 Vent.

Also, you might want to send a PM to ltcjmramos who hangs out on the 996 GT3/GT2 Forum. His current avatar shows the 3-part upper vent on his Speed Yellow GT3. However, his car has a 996 GT3 RS front bumper cover, which comes with the vent.

Do what the Cupcars do. Cut some slots in the bumper, and install screen on the underside. It's that simple.

I guess I'm too late for the party but the 997 GT3 vent doesn't work on the 996 cars. The curvature is different where the hood (or trunk) meets the bumper. How do I know?, I tried.

You would need to paint, but you could cut the vent holes yourself. It would require precision and have no room for error but I'm sure it could be done. Stock bumpers are cheap at least. I've got one in my attic, and I'm sure lot's of other people do as well.

Joel,

Yes, I got the part and see that the curve is quite different. I think I might be able to make it work if I take it to a pro. That being said, I may just order the 996 GT2 version and try to do it myself.
