Default Exhaust setup, increasing sound, already got PSE.

Hi guys,

Im in the UK, got a set of PSE fitted to my Carrera.

They are pretty loud (relay de-activated), but a bit quiet on the lower rev range.

How can I increase sound, chaning the cats to sport cats? maybe new headers?

Any suggestions? will these make a difference?

Thanks and Merry Xmas.

Be careful on changing the cats. Did that last year, put the Dansk in and took them out 2 days later. They were too loud for street use. I guess if you are going to dedicate your car to track use the cats are definitely a good choice. I also replaced the exhaust with BillyBoat? Indeed, the exhaust note is very pleasing, although, if you are a spectator they sound far more awesome. I have a set of cats worth about $1500 sitting in my garage.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

Did you install the cats with the stock exhausts? or with the Porsche Sports Exhaust?

Thanks.

A little too loud.

I quite like the PSE because it has the switch which can be useful.

I'm just trying to gain a slight increase in sound over the PSE in open mode.

Sounds like headers would may be perfect for your needs. You will get more of the sound that you are looking for without the harsh sport cat / cat bypass roar...not to mention the mid range torque gain. Are you currently running an intake? If not you may want to start with an intake to get a bit more sound. Then you can decide if you want to move into the headers....

Hi Rhonda,

Thank you for your response.

Great advice. Okay I have an intake system on its way, will try this first (next month).

May go with the headers, what do you recommend from your range?

I assume that for the PSE, you did not connect the wire that quiets the exhaust at lower speeds (the switch would still seem to work, but would be over-ridden by the logic circuit).

put a switch between the speed sensor (pink/gry wire) and the relay... you can have both auto on/off or manual on/off at the flick of a switch.

I have already had this feature disabled.

When PSE is on it is heard throughout the rev range at any speed.

When off it is silent/stock.

I will fit the new intake, see how it goes, may go for a set of replacement manifolds as well.

Just want to make it sound more lively at lower RPM.

Allomoto,

Glad to here you have an intake on the way. Let me know how that works out. If you still need more I have 2 sets of headers available.

The first are Dansk headers, part # 96.280S which retail for $ 790.00. They are T304 Stainless, are equal length and have a merge collector. 8-10 lb. ft or torque gain. In stock.

The second are FVD headers, part # 210 111 996 36 which retail for $1,556.00. They are T316 Stainless, are equal length with a merge collector but have larger port openings on the flange that meet the engine block. This accounts for greater torque. 12-16 lb. ft torque gain. In stock.

Both will give you a slightly deeper exhaust note.

Thanks!
Rhonda
