Default 45,000 mile service

charge was $1200. I brought it to the dealer as I had some minor warranty issues, but this seems high even for a dealer! (I did have the brake fluid flushed...+$125.).
In fairness, this is my first cost in almost 2 years of ownership...I changed the oil myself some time ago.

What has other people paid?

The previous owner of my 2003 911 cab paid $3,000 US for 30K service. Might be why he sold it I got it with 31K miles.

My 30K service was around $900 at dealer, I think... I have not seen a std 30K service for $3,000, maybe they changed a bunch of other stuff on the car, clutch, brakes, radiator/brake flush etc...???

Tell me what they did to earn your $1,200? See what this shop in Portland charges for the 45K service. Don't shoot the messenger.

That sounds high. I recently had my 60K service done (a bigger service) and only paid a little over $700, heck, I even had a low tone horn replaced and my brakes flushed and it still only came to $110.

... I'd shop around, or at least get them to justify the cost.

I guess I'm paying too much, but I questioned the dealer on doing my own service and how it affects my warranty...he said as long as I can prove I did all the recommended work my warranty will survive.
For $1200. the dealer replaced the pollen and air filters, replaced the wiper blades, flushed the brake system, topped all fluids, cleaned the radiators, greased all necessary areas (doors, etc.), added something called "brake clean" ($55) and changed the oil and filter, which is all I really needed. My warranty expires in 3 months, so this was my last visit.

Here’s the official 45k service list as I understand it for MY04, which shouldn’t be much different than MY03

Lots of ‘inspections’ and an oil change basically; LINK hould also be in the OM.

What I bet happened is that they conducted the other items, which seem worthwhile of course, for the revenue

Thanx, I think I will slowly check over those and keep a list on file...I just passed the 105k and like you said, most are "inspect" so I will do so, and make a check by them....

Just got quoted 850 from my indy, and 550 - 710 from two local dealers. WTF?!

I suppose the only reason NOT to do the service is to have records...

Keep in mind that a 45K service is just an oil change. That is an hour's worth of work. You should not pay more than $150 -$200 if you have someone do it. If you DIY it is about $85 worth of oil and filter.

$487.58 for 45K service about 3 weeks ago. Included oil change and change of a bunch of filters (air, pollen, or something like that).

You were punked by the oldest scam in dealerdom.

Go in for essentially an oil change, come out with $487 worth of filters (or something like that.....) that you did not need.

Most robbers use a gun, but many Porsche owners gladly hand their money over to the thieves, no questions asked.....

You may be correct... but the good thing was that one of my convertible top motors apparently was malfunctioning and I got that replaced for free under my CPO... So, I 'saved' some money!

And I got a Cayman S for the day, and now know that I definitely will never buy that car!

The real problem is that I am not that great with maintenance, etc, so not sure how to do this kind of stuff myself... guess I should learn and save some money. Any good books out there... 996 Maintenance for Dummies?
