Extending CPO warranty on a 2001
I'm looking at a 2001 911 that has a CPO warranty for a few more months. Is it possible to pay and extend this for a few more years? Or does Porsche shut you down at some point? Car only has 17K on it....would you be worried?

Unless you get a Porsche dealership to act as a pass-through and re-CPO with PCNA it for an additional fee, then there is no way to extend the CPO.

I'd be worried due to low mileage and lack of use = garage queen. That being said, you may find that the Porsche you're seeking won't have those issues.GL

A Porsche dealer can ONLY make a Porsche CPO and it must adhere to the requirements (both year and mileage as well as CPO certification checklist) before it can get CPO status. The cost to the dealer is roughly $1800.

So, it seems that:
1. A CPO car cannot be CPOed again or have its Porsche warranty extended?
2. A 2001 which is still covered is unlikely to have the ability to be extended.
??

A car that is currently CPO cannot have it extended but rather it can be re-CPO'd to start the clock over. You'll be able to buy a CPO car two ways and two ways only:
1. Buying a used car that is currently CPO and buy it directly from the owner to have the title transfered to you and then the CPO remaining time is transferable to you. If it is CPO and it sold to a used car dealer, auction, etc, the CPO becomes void.
2. Buying a car from a Porsche dealer and they certify it as CPO, pay the money to PCNA, and sell the car to you as a "Certified" pre-owned Porsche. If a dealer will not or cannot CPO a car on their lot I would not even consider the car.

In July I purchased an extended warranty through "AA Auto Warranty" (I have no affiliation but am a happy customer) for my 2003 996 which has 15K miles. It is a 5 year 75,000 mile OEM warranty which mirrors the manufacturer's coverage. It has a $50 deductable but you can get a higher deductable for less money if you wish. I also added tire coverage for a one-time fee of $100 which covers tire damage for $100 per tire (I have had two nails in the last year). It also reimburses for $50/day rental car for all covered repairs, roadside assistance including towing, and lodging if you are away from home with a covered repair. Cost was $2800.
My CPO ran out last month and wouldn't you know it, this month I had a failure which resulted in replacement of the radio and amplifier for $1000. I paid just the $50 deductable. The dealer made all phonecalls and the warranty company gave the dealer a credit card over the phone.
IMO this is a good policy. It is an exclusionary type which lists the items NOT covered. Everything else specifically IS covered. The listed items match those that Porsche also does not cover (normal wear items mostly). In fact, in my above $1000 radio repair, Porsche would NOT have covered it so it's a good thing it happened after the CPO ran out and I started using the aftermarket one.
Engine/transmission is covered for those wondering.
Unless you are doing great in the stock market I cannot see owning one of these cars without a warranty.
