Default Can you easily replace the airbag crest?

On an OEM sport steering wheel's airbag, can you replace just the crest due to wear/color chipping/flaking?

TIA

Jeff

Properly? Not without purchasing a new airbag. Some people buy a "stick on" crest to have a different colored crest or to add a crest to an airbag that was sans crest to begin with. However, IMHO that is NOT the safest way to do it as you don't want a projectile crest coming at you in an airbag explosion. The factory crest IIRC is riveted to the bag so it stay on the cover when the airbag deploys.

Understood....wish you could get just the cover and not the rest of the bag as a "part"...is this possible?

LVDell, thanks!

I don't believe that is possible to get just the cover. I checked the pricing on the airbags recently at it looks like the retail pricing is something like $725 for the airbag. Ouch!

By the way, what do you have right now and what are you trying to do exactly?

Suncoast usually has some of the best prices around and $450 is a great price! They just don't like the airbag on their website. Wheels only.

Just replace one the PO pretty much trashed....promised myself to leave it alone, but my 4yo son noted it was "worn off looking" and that just planted the seed.....

Cool

Last year, I tried one of those stick-on crests because my original steering wheel was the boring 4-spoke type with the Porsche crest stamped into the airbag cover plastic.
I put the new crest right over the stamped crest. I came back a couple hours later and the new crest was gone. I searched the carpet and found it hiding under the drivers seat. Stuck it back in place, but it was obvious it would just fall right off, again.
SOoooo rather than relegate a $50 item to the closet, I stuck it to a 1970's door-sill hanging style plastic cup holder. A black one. Trimmed off all but 3/8" of the doorsill lip and stuck it betweem the lower dash and the console. Now I have a cool $51 cup holder in a car that had none.
Then, I bought a completely new steering wheel... but that story is in a different thread.

+1 on Suncoast Porsche for your airbag with crest.
