My weekend mod - release latches
I couldn't take it anymore... The bonnet latch was so scuffed up from the previous owner, it drove my crazy. I decided it wasn't worth the $$$ to buy new latches, and I could live without the little pictures, so I painted them. I thought about red to match the exterior, and black to blend them in, but decided to keep them somewhat stock by keeping them silver.
Overall, I am very happy with the results.
I tried to show the steps below.

Nice job! Thanks for sharing Don.
I've wondered about this myself. Mine are not yet at the stage that they need repainting, but the day will eventually come.

really good write up...
Q?: how many people would be interested in replacing those with ? Polished Aluminum 6061 machined, and clearcoat or possibly hard anodized in color..(pick color)
I have been thinking of making some parts, and this looks like a good one...
(since a good pedal kit is over $100, is whould surely cost more, its more work) If there is enough interest I could do some legwork and try to get a cost proposal out with colors and options...(not to jack your thread, if you want me to remove this, I will)

Thanks guys!
ivangene - I don't mind at all.
About 5 min after posting this thread, I pulled my drivers seat (so I could replace the seat belt latch) and put a nice scratch in my freshly redone bonnet latch .
By the way, for those who have never pulled a seat, the connectors under the power seats are like chinese finger puzzles!

Thanks for posting that - great pictures - it really helps to see the job at hand.
It's a great improvement, but the graphics need to be marked on there somehow.
I wonder if anyone has any good ideas for you on that, and I'd be curious too:
What is a good way to remark the levers with the black line art "icons" - hood release and rear hatch release?
Stickers?
Some special printing technique?
lasercut window sign transfer material?
Stencil?
Maybe someone has done it before.

I caught the writing on the part as well - made the job feel a bit more personal.

Nice job, and excellent writeup. In the future, you could closeup-photograph the small symbols on the ends (trunk, hood, etc.) and then print them on some sort of transparent label to put them back on the respective handles after you painted them.

Is the latch metal? If so I will remove and silver powdercoat mine. I have a powdercoating system and sand blaster. doubt it will scratch easily aftr that.

I would pay $100 for a set of aluminum, pref not polished since they get beat to hell.
really good write up...
