Default Jack and Jack Stand Placement

Sorry for the stupid question everyone. I have a 996 and I see the 4 points where I can place the jack - however, I am trying to get the back and/or front on stands to do some painting of the calipers. When the Jack is lifting one side, where is the stand supposed to go? I am confused since the jack is already on the point where apparently it is the ONLY place the car can be lifted?

Is there a certain trick to do this that I am not thinking of? Or am I so mechanically and street-smart declined that I should just give up?

Thanks in advance for your patience and help.

speaking of damage... be careful on the jacking points in the engine area... make sure it is not caught on the pan and such.
