Ah, ready to perform surgery? It's called an amberectomy, here's step by step instructions on how to do it: http://hverheyen.vssi-eda.com/box_pics/lights/

I had that link saved because I was wondering how to remove that as well when I was going to buy an MKI 996, although I ended up buying an MKII instead. Anyway, good luck!

Will do - also do you recommend the silver vision bulbs? Or do I simply put back the same bulbs? If you do recommend silvervision/other, can you supply a part number or where I can order from?

Well I haven't had the need to do this, since I have an MKII 996, but if I had to, I'd go to XenonMods.com, they seem to offer high quality products at a great price.

I bought my Porsche decals there recently when I did my caliper paint job. Here's a link: http://xenonmods.com/newporschedecal.htm, at the bottom of this page are silver bulbs for headlights, turn signals, & tail lights that are perfectly legal because they are amber when they light up, but yet clear when unlit.

+1 on Xenonmods. When I changed my lights, I got my bulbs from him. Good communication, quick shipping.

Did you end up doing the modification? I have a 2001 C4 with these headlights (see pic). I just attempted to try to follow the directions, but it seems that the plastic might be orange and not just a thin coating. Is that correct or not? If so, do I have any options besides buying a new headlight assembly?

Yes, there is actually 3 sides to the amber - picture a box w/o one of the sides. What I did was melt down the middle of each square as well as the corners. This allowed me to take my needlenose and "twist" the pieces apart, allowing me to get each 1/2 square out of the small opening.

Hope this helps - let me know if you have any more questions on this.
