I had one of those days at the dealer...It all started with a DYI project that went fairly well. I fixed my problems and along the way found a few things I wasnt to excited about...
My car (bought private party) has surely been hit in the front. I really knew that when I bought it, but hey... its 9 years old, and I accepted it. When I opened the front there were a few things not quite right. A handful of wrong screws, some missing buttons, a couple small plastic pieces missing or broken...alright, poor repairs..
Meanwhile my new clear side marker lights came in and all the new parts from the dealer and I put it all together...still there are a couple of tiny missaligned pieces due to internal problems.. Its NOT PERFECT

so while at the Dealer one of the service guys says "nice car" and we started to talking. He asked if the motor had been replaced since I have 104k miles and I said... you tell me... NOPE...he says after a brief crawl on the ground

So then we started talking about motor replacement cost vs rebuilding and the next thing I know I am scared to death to drive my car... worried that it will die and then if it did.. why would I sink a new motor in a car that had been hit...needs things.. on and on...

SO ... let me know things are going to be OK .. I need a bit of re-assuring tonight...
By the way, currently there is nothing wrong with my car that I am aware of..

I will just sum it up as I see it.

Life is SHORT! drive your car and enjoy it! whatever will happen.. will happen.
If you car made it 104K I would think that any defects would have shown up by now.

Just relax and enjoy it.

Just drive it like you stole it (at the track, anyway) and enjoy it. It's not a time bomb that you've suddenly armed just because you've discovered that it's been hit at some point in its life.

My '84 was hit hard before I bought it (I should've seen it, but didn't...), so after the shock and dismay subsided a bit I took a big gulp, decided to live with it, and set about making it right. Four years later my little 911 drives perfectly, is a fun as he11 DE car, looks good, and has my blood, sweat. tears, and, money all over it.

With that mieage you most likely bought your Porsche for a very decent price. Don't be timid about using and enjoying your 996, some on this forum have had no engine issues at all regardless of mileage.Don't despair....drive your car.

Look at it this way. If you get a new engine you can enjoy it for another 100k miles!

Don't worry about the mileage or the dealer comment. He is in business to stay in business.

Drive it! There are numerous "high" mileage Porsche owners on these boards some with over 175K!

I would say the majority on this forum have had no engine issues.

I understand your fear, though my mileage is much less at 49k. I'm one of the ones that maybe really can't afford a 996. If my motor goes, I don't have the funds for a replacement at the moment.

But, I wanted one!! I can afford to maintenance the car, so I took a chance. Everytime I come home I get out and say, that is such a fun car to drive.

Just enjoy it everyday!!

I agree - drive drive drive.
If anything, try to kill it - chances are, you won't be able to. But, if it does die, at least you won't be disappointed!

Thanks all, feeling better, drove the car on several windy roads this WE and had a blast...AWE..better

Also went to a concours where the P-Club had a huge showing and saw lots of good cars and people. he best part was seening all the "problems" with the ones that get driven, and understanding...it's OK to have some issues... its not a concours, its a driver

Just drove to Richmond this weekend and hit 140mph on I-95S - on my 117k original motor. Clear road ahead, so I downshifted and ran through the gears to keep those cylinders clean.
