Does anyone know if the enginge must be removed when replacing the clutch on an all wheel drive car?
I have a C4 that's due and can't determine if the all wheel drive cars need to have the engine removed when this is being done. For sure the 2 wheel drive cars can drop the trans. only but can the all wheel drive guys do the same?
My local shop is telling me that the C4 takes twice the labor than the C2 to change the clutch partly because the engine must come out as well.
Ouch!
Thanks.

996 C4 MANUAL transmission is removed like the C2, the only difference is the front driveshaft needs releasing and only requires some extra time.
The TIPTRONIC requires engine and trans removal as one unit.
Make sure you replace the rear main seal with the factory one, the update case bolts and intermediate shaft seal housing. The clutch release lever, pivot and seal have also been updated
