I am (hopefully) a few weeks away from being a '04 C4S cabriolet owner. Finalizing the sale of a few cars to make it possible....
Question: I would plan on using this most days, and living in CT, I was wondering if people have winter tire setups for C4S's and what they are / how do they handle.
I've owned an Audi that was great and a BMW545 (rear drive) that was aweful.
Thanks,
Tom

The only N-rated Porsche approved winter tires in the right size for a widebody 996 when using the 8x11 rear wheels. Fronts are 235/40/18, rear are 295/35/18. Slightly higher sidewall than the summer tires and the ride is a bit softer, but it works great in the white stuff. Car handles better in the wet, ice, slush, etc... than any SUV I've ever driven. Bring on the snow!!

When I saw the title of this thread I thought that maybe Phil was going to put winter tires on his car so when it sat in storage all winter long, the battery wouldn't sulfate!

Tom, if you do end up with a C4S, I think I know of a set of winter tires/rims for sale near me (at least about 2 months ago I met a guy trying to sell a set... but they're not in very high demand around here. I would have bought them, but I have a narrow body car.)

Tom, I have a pair of LM-25 fronts for sale, 235/40/18. They are new and have never been mounted. I'm looking for $225 for the pair. Depending where you live in CT I could meet you since I am going to parents weekend at UCONN the first weekend of October.

Quick question about winter tire: is it bad to keep winter tires year-round on the car? The p-car is my daily driver - is it really making a big difference if I don't push the car to the max?

Yes, it's bad. It'll handle poorer at higher temperatures and the tires will wear about twice as quickly as during the winter.

I asked this exact question last year and went with the Pirelli 240's that pongobaz recommended.... worked out great! You don't have to buy new wheels and you keep the 18inch look. highly recommended.
