Default Tire Advice

Need new shoes. Got pricing on the following. Any advice on best selection will be appreciated

Goodyear F1 - Cheapest (would not have considered, but the price is killer)
Toyo T1R - next cheapest
Mich Pilot Sports (not PS2) - this selection requires a fair amount of difficulty, but ends up being the third most expensive.

Yoko's and Bridgestones are a minimum of $200 a set more expensive.

Thanks for the advice

These are the every day shoes, though they might step out to a party from time to time. Also, the Goodyear being priced is the F1 All Season. Sounds like boring, comfortable shoes

I had the GY Eagle F1 A/S on my last S4 - they were really an excellent A/S tire. Ditched the car at 2500 miles, so I can't give you any long-term impressions. Are you buying a tire to use year-round, to include winter use in a cold climate? If not too much snow, the F1 is a good choice. Call or email Gary at Tire Rack - he was really helpful with tire choices. He can be reached here: Gary@tirerack.com.

You make compromises with A/S tires. Does it snow where you live? If so, I suggest you get two sets of tires. If you are just looking for summer treads, there are plenty threads on good value summer tires. Do a search.

If you're local to SoCal, I'll make you a great deal on a couple of front Pilot Sports (225/40/18). I seem to recall the tread depth is 7/32". Send me a PM if you're interested.

Thanks for the replies. I do understand the compromise with AS tires. Since I am in the bay area, snow is not a problem. Leaning toward the Pilots and just the PS not the PS2's. Any one have experience with the Toyos?

LiveNupe, let me know what you want for the fronts. If the price is right I am sure we can find a way to get them to NoCal.

I had the Toyos on for some time on 17 inch wheels. Good tire for the money. However, now I've on both cars Falken tires. The FK452 on the BMW (19 inch) is a great every day tire with reasonable wear. The Azenis RT615 that I've on the 911 (now 18 inch) seems to be a great compromise between a high performance tire and an R-Comp. Wear seems to be less good but acceptable as I drive the 911 only 6k miles/year. Tirerack doesn't have Falken but these two places do have them. I think Falkens are great tires for the money and honestly I don't think the much more expensive Pirelli P Zero Rosso i had before on the 911 were any better.

Default Toyo T1R is my favorite tire, so far.

I've had the toyo T1R for daily driver duties, and compared to michelin ps2 the toyos are MUCH QUIETER, and in the rain were much better. (A friend has the toyos on his infiniti G35 and complains that the car hydroplanes terribly, but maybe that's because his camber is less aggressive than on a porsche.) I've had the car over 85mph in rain without a hint of traction issues. They really amazed me with their wet performance. I couldn't perceive any difference in dry performance. The michelins are too painfully loud for me.

{original owner 2004 C2 w/GT3 wheels & aerokit, now 89,000 miles and counting...}

I just put on a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position, they are awesome. Good grip AND quiet ride.

Pilot Sport 2 are leaps and bounds above the Pilot Sports. Less noisy, and more grip. Better in the rain.

I'm in Los Angeles, so I barely see rain, but from my experience, it's much more confidence inspiring.
