Default X-Post....Thinking about trading in my '06 Cayman S....

for a used 996 C4S...... or should I consider a used 997 C4S model?

I love my CaymanS, but with two young kids, I am trying to have the entire family enjoy the ride, plus I could also use it in the cold Boston winters.

Any advice?

Thanks.

I have a 993 C4S. If you are over 5'-8" and your kids are over 4 years old the back seats are pretty much useless. The C4S is an awsome car but I don't know if I would make that switch on the sole basis of being able to take your kids along.

John, thanks for the response.....

I am 5'-8" on a good day, and my kids are 7 and 10, too tight you think?

Of course, I would be able to drive it in the winter......right?

Paolo: The 996 and 997 are bit roomier in the back than the 993 (both 6 & 7 are pretty much the same in terms of space). Whether you opt for a 996 or 997 that is your own personal decision and your wallet size.
My kid is 7 and enjoys riding with us. Not sure how your 10 yr old would fare on a long trip, but I'm sure he'll do fine on short trips. We have done multiday trips with 8 to 10 hours of driving each. The kid has done well on these long trips... although you hear the "are we there yet" chant much closer and louder than in a sedan or SUV... something that a portable DVD player or Nintendo DS can temporarily cure. I'm sure there is a fellow Rennlister in your area that would allow you to test fit your kids for size.

I'm with you on the experience sharing... I truly enjoy that!

I'm 5'11" and I still manage to stuff my teen daughters (both around 5'6") in the back seat for short trips. Not the most comfortable place to sit, but better than not having the option to carry people in a pinch.

I chose my 996 over other cars almost entirely because I could put children in the back seat. I'd almost never have a chance to drive the car if my 5-year-old couldn't ride in it.

A Cayman S is a great car, but the 996 jump seats do work for my 2 little kids occassionally.
