Default Anyone put four track tires on the Porsche Roof Transport System?

Hey DE junkies,

Anyone ever use the Porsche Roof Transport System to haul four track tires? I used to do that with my 964 and a rain gutter mounted system. However, now I have an '02 C4S and the track tires are much larger/heavier. So I wonder about the sturdiness of it plugging into the roof with only four tiny bolts.

I saw in the Searched Threads that Galun did a neat job with it, but hauled only two tires. So I was wondering if any brave souls out there tried it with four?

Thanks,
Steve

I think Porsche rates it at only 65 lbs. That's a couple of mounted rims right there.

The 996 RTS is rated for 75KG/165LBS.

Joe has one that he put 4 wheels on.

The Yakima line has some great roof systems. If you get a set of the clamps, I think they call them 'Q towers', and the 48 inch crossbars, you can make a very sturdy mount. This is what I did on my 964, which has rain gutters. It clamps on easily, and does not leave marks of any kind.

However, my new 996 does not have rain gutters, and the tire/wheels are much larger. So I wanted to try something similar. I see the one Joe put together. Thanks for the link.

Good luck,
Steve

Auto-XR,

Good to know when I graduate back to R-Comps (when my back can handle lifting the tires again). Do you know if his tire rack was custom made or something that is easily ordered online?

Thanks in advance,

I believe that he had the top part custom made to fit on the mounting racks. You may want to check with him for details.
