Default Sun Roof Has Mind of it's own

A few weeks back, with hot weather for the Pacific Northwest, ( 80F) my sunroof started acting a bit cranky. Gave it a quick push of the button for full auto retract but it stopped half way. Tried closing but it would only travel a couple of inches. Repeated 5 or 6 times with same result. Would travel different distances while trying to open or close but would not travel full distance. Took a drive, 15 minutes later no further issues. Anyone else experience similiar issues ???

Yeah - sometimes if I push the button and release it, mine stops mid way, then reverses and tries to open itself again...

When it does it the first time, it'll keep doing it when I push and release - until I finally just hold the button down and force the stubborn thing.

Same here, sometime on close, it closes 2/3rd of the way and opens again.
(also in the Pacific Northwest..)

Maybe time to grease the cables and/or rails..

Same issue here in NC. It only seems to occur after the car sits outside for a while. It never happens first thing in the morning when pulling the car out of the garage.

Maybe its MK1 and heat/humidity related?

Same issue here! I thought I was doing something wrong, it acts crazy like that also, but only occasionally.

Mine does it too. I found by re-lubing the sunroof rails it does it quite a bit less.

Mine did it when I lived in San Diego, CA and now in Baltimore, MD. Completely opposite weather, so I don't think it matters.

I seem to recall that there's an electronic module along with the motor... things like that are prone to getting moisture in them.

I'll see if I can take a picture - I'm surprised how many people have the same problem. Maybe someone can write up a little lube procedure, too.

It's set to reverse or stop if it senses an obstruction from the load of the motor.

My 99 C2 has done it as well & it seems to only happen if I try to close it on "rougher" roads or while turning with an elevation change (driveway for example).....maybe something to do with vibration fooling it into
thinking there is an obstruction is what I had been thinking.

On smooth roads it has never happened that I recall.
