Default How Many RMS's?

How many have you had done... i am on my 5th RMS... never had a "Major" Leak, just been told by the Tech that its leaking and should be looked after when can, while teh cars been on the Hoist... all Warranty and 2 more years of CPO Left :P

Does the RMS depend on your Driving habbit? i drive mine like i stole it...

Also when was the latest RMS design put into circulation?

Only one RMS replacement on mine.

It pissed me off so much that two years after the dealer replaced the RMS, I sent the car back to the lease company!

The bulletin announcing the 997/Cayenne style seal came out September 6, 2005. This was the 4th generation seal for the M96 motor.

It's a feature of the 996 - can happen to any car

No point spending money on having it replaced unless:

a) It's under warranty
b) You're having a clutch replaced
c) You have money to burn

It's cosmetic, slightly annoying, but not something to blow your $$$ on.

99,000 miles and never had a problem with the RMS. The transmission was replaced at 92,000 so I imagine it got replaced then anyway, but it has always been bone dry.

In my case they replaced the whole engine due to RMS, the tech said that becasue the crank was not alinged properly it would leak no matter how many times you replaced the seal..

2 RMS. 1st was with the original owner in 2004. 2nd was with me in 2006. 20K kms since and no bedwetting from the p-car and it hardly consumes any oil in daily driving or trackdays. Looks like they got it right with the last seal.

RMS somewhere around 30k if I remember correctly. I now have 116k and still no leaks, and still drive it like I stole it.

My new 1999 996 had 2 RMS failures. The 2nd one was discovered while it was in the shop for various other issues with 23K on the clock. PCNA took the car back proactively and replaced it with a brand new 2001 996 (June of 2001 by then). Drove that car 1300 miles then had the RMS on that one too. Sold it at 25K miles with no further incidents.

2 RMS with the 2 previous owners.
I have not checked if it is leaking, in over 2 years.

I had an engine replacement at 24K for RMS bore alignment issue. RMS on replacement engine was replaced twice, the last time with the "new" design seal from the Cayenne V8 in October of 2005. All replaced under warranty and bone dry since.

no RMS. New motor when my cylinder head #1 cracked tho. Would have been great if PCNA picked it up, but alas, it was all on me. Still makes me a little sick.
