Ya, you can all rest assured, the odometer is VERY accurate and depends on nothing else. Especially an inaccurate reading of the speedometer. With todays GPS devices and hell, just mile markers. Even the slightest innacuracy would be very easy to figure out. In all the years on the earth, i've never even heard of an inaccurate odometer.

If you have shorter tires on a car than the factory specs, the odometer will think the car has traveled further than it actually has. The speedometer will also read higher.

<shrug> He happens to be correct, and that's ignoring the fact that Porsche's legal department would most likely freak if they thought the engineers had the odometer being driven by the speedometer.

As gant says, there's little to no correlation between the odometer and the speedometer.

Mechanical speedo days, there was a direct correlation. Just to be clear, chainging the height of the tire or swapping gear ratios will affect the speedo and odometer similarly.

Sure, but we're not talking about the mechanical speedo days. You didn't forget your 996 already, did you?

Sure, but I think you're just confusing the issue by pointing this stuff out.

Both the speedo and the odometer get their numbers from the abs wheel speed sensors. That seems pretty tightly linked to me. After that, it's just math.
