Default 996 Mileage

Hi,
Looking to buy a 2001 996. Looking on craigslist etc. What are your thoughts on mileage on this car? I have read Chads996 buyers guide and he says "nothing less than 25K and nothing over 50K".
With a higher mileage 2001 996 (Lets say in the 70K to 80K range) what should I look out for?
Wouldn't a well maintained high mileage Porsche be a good deal? Or will this guarantee me getting to know my local Porsche mechanic intimately? Which is something I would rather avoid.
The difference seems to be in the $10000.00 mark between the sweet spot of 30-40K and 70-80K.
Any feedback on the high mileage Porsche would be awesome.

I bought a 1995 911 with 150,000 miles. Drove it 30,000 and loved every mile. I am not afraid of a high mileage car that has been driven. To find a high valued car that has been driven means you have a good chance of finding an owner who takes care of a car. The worst thing that can happen to a car is its owner.

These cars require maintenance and it’s not cheap, but it’s worth it. I would think a car between 70 and 100 thousand miles is coming up against some major maintenance items. Just factor that into the price and you're good to go.

The mileage that Chad gives are his opinion, and you will get plenty more. As with any car, higher mileage generally means higher maintenance costs for you. If it's well maintained and you can get a PPI from someone good, it may be a good buy.

+1 on the advice here. The 60k service is a big one, and 90k isn't small either, but if you factor those into the price you're OK. Other items that seem to go at this mileage can include the plastic expansion tank, and of course the shocks which get pretty tired after more than 60-80k IMHO. That's just a great excuse to fit M030 like I did at 80k. My car is at 96k now, and apart from the shocks, the only major non-service work has been both cats and currently a minor gremlin in the remote locking.

The engine and transmission have a useful life far beyond 100k, and the bodywork is essentially rustproof (unless there's been a bad repair) so I wouldn't let this mileage worry you too much.
