Porsche serial number resource
Hello,
Does anyone know of a web resource to help me figure out what the serial number means (ie options, colour etc).
Thanks,
Lee

800-porsche will tell what option code your car was ordered with, but they won't tell you what those codes mean.
you can try the option decoder in this site.
or if you can find the order guide, it will be the best since the order guide will have the code.

In 1981 Porsche started using the 17 digit international standard serial number.
WPO is the code for the manufacturer (Porsche)
In 2004 the WPO remained with the 4th letter designating the model type
5th letter is for engine type A or B for normal C for Turbo
6th letter is for restraint systems 0 for active 2 for passive
7th 8th and 12th combine for the model number i.e. 996
9th is check digit
10th is for model year B thru Y is 1981 thru 2000. In 2001 they became numeric with 1 meaning 2001 etc.
11th digit is production plant S for Stuttgart, L is Leipzig
13 thru 17th are your actual serial number
Now if you're looking for option codes, you asked the wrong question.
