Question PS2 and Pilot Sport Rib - 225/40/18 and 285/30/18

Hi guys,

I can only find Pilot Sport Rib and not PS2 anymore online (for those sizes). Are PS2 still availble or they got replaced by PSR? Also, PSR has 220 tread wear. How does it compare to PS2?

Thanks.

I'm just in the process of purchasing some "ribs".
I have done a fair bit of research over the last 2 weeks, reading reports and consumer reviews and the majority of comments that I read were hugely positive for these tires as a reasonably well wearing, excellent traction wet and dry and almost everyone also commented on how very quiet they are.....some saying that it was the first time they could actually listen to the stereo in the car without cranking up the volume at highway speeds.
I should also point out that the comments that I paid the most attention to were submitted by Porsche owners.

Sorry, i should clarify. I'm looking for 18" for '03 C2, which are 225/40/18 and 285/30/18. The PS2 has 225/40/18 but not Porsche spec. and 285/30/18 is not even available.

Thanks for the info, Pete. That's my impression of some reviews I saw too.

My tire guy told me the same thing. Only ribs will fit, not PS2's.

Ribs wear noticeably faster than the competition. Then again, I've noted that for most Michelin tires. If you are looking for durability and an n-rating, I believe that Contis last pretty long, but you'll have to accept driving that **** poor of a tire.

I will be facing the same issue soon. I would like to continue with PS2's because I will not need to replace the fronts. In a prior discussion, someone suggested getting 295/30/18's (which are still made) saying that they would fit the rear wheels. The downside is very slightly more understeer (oh joy!).

All,

I wound up upsizing to 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 which is just 1cm wider in front and in back. The sidewall looks a little 'fat' but at least it'll help protect me from curb rash. I've only driven it on the street so far but it seems fine, just subjectively a little less stiff in the sidewall compared to my Pirelli's which were like riding on rocks...

Ahsai, like Tonger mentioned above, I upsized to 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 (N2) with the PS2's and had no fitment problems. Great tire. Longer wearing that the P-Zeros. I had 14,000 miles on teh PS2's when I returned to car to the leasing company this Monday and I was expecting an additional 5,000 miles of "good" wear remaining on them.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the info and tips. I may just try the ribs first. I'm using Contis now so upgrading to ribs should give some improvement although I must say Contis are not bad at all.

Tim, you got 14k on the front or the rear? My Contis rear last 9k and the front 17k miles.

My experience is similar to Tim's. I now have 14k on my PS2 rears and they still have considerable life in them.

Ahsai,

I have been driving with the PS Ribs in the last 3 years. I'm on the 2nd set now, and I must say they're outstanding for both highway and DE. Lot quieter than the Contis which I had when I first got the car.

Thanks Mike. That's good to know!
