Ultimate cupholders are by far the best way to go; the condensation stay on the carpet instead of on your dash. Plus, the MkI OEM cupholders look absurd.

robin...when you moved the ac control to the lower position, how did you re-attach it?? are the attachment points the same in the top and lower locations?

The lower compartment is predrilled (at least it was on mine) for two screws.

+1 for the ultimates. And if something does spill due to vibrations, it's on the floorboard. But, I haven't had those issues with mine.

If something spills out of my ultimate cupholders, I'm upside down...and that ain't a good thing.

I have 2 Ultimate cupholders from my E39 BMW. Anyone with a 996 one have a pic of the whole thing, so I can see the difference. I'll bet it's just the way the SS is bent. That would be great to reuse the ones I have by just rebending it!! I'm not crazy about the one in the 2002 & later for anything other than a soda can, and then, only if it's half empty!! TIA.

I don't have a picture of mine removed to show you, but from their site, it seems as though they are virtually identical except for the fact that the BMW tabs look bent backward a touch to accomodate the center console. On the 996, the tab is basically straight up.

I'll bet it's the same or can be bent into the same, why not pull it out and see?
