Ha! Is that what that red area on the tach is for?

I saw the Coochas 993 video from the factory, showing how each 993 engine was run AT REDLINE all day long (or something like that) to test race worthyness.

I love the howl it makes over 5K from the CAI. Did I just open a can of worms?

In all seriousness, I, like BruceP, also believe that it may be detrimental to the engine if it was not allowed to reach the higher rpms regularly. By "higher rpms" I do NOT mean just 5k.

...plus it's fun...

Do you have the link handy for that video?

Porsche (at least used to) tests racing motor designs at full load for 24 hours, because they had to withstand that in a 24-hour race. The story goes that the 917 motor wore out the dyno.

Here is a link to the page - you have to scroll down to the 993 videos and choose the "993 - The Latest Evolution" video. 20 minutes of drooling!

Right. Because that hurts its feelings.

I disagree.

I've driven for very long stretches at 100mph+, and the tach is over 4k - and the car loves it. It's made to drive on the autobahn all day, so no big deal.

In each of my several trips across the country, I've set the cruise at anywhere between 90 and 100 and just cruised along. This is in a car with well over 100k on the odometer and it's perfectly healthy.

Morale of the story - don't be scared of 4k and above - the engine was made for it.

OK, but it's still silly to gobble that much $4 gas going straight! Fun, but silly.

It's silly to go anywhere in an expensive car when a junker Kia will do, too, no?

Agreed completely. Driven gingerly until warm, then aggressively thereafter. I definitely NEVER lug, though many of my friends do. Cretins. Man I love the sound of the engine when the car is revved up.

If you're going to be like that, why not just take the bus?
